Our projects focus on empowering Pasifika youth, using a strength-based approach to bridge cultural barriers. By fostering meaningful collaborations, we aim to support positive life trajectories for Pasifika youth in Australia.

Project Objectives

Engaging with community members (leaders, parents, and youth) to discern, empathise and co-design a culturally responsive framework (that is named by the community themselves).

Conducting surveys, focus groups and interviews with members of the community to create a Pasifika Engagement Tool (PET) to develop a research-informed approach to enhance community engagement in education.

Developing fact sheets to accompany the PET that provide practical examples for different stakeholders who work with the Pasifika community to enhance community engagement and build positive relationships, leading to a strong engagement for Pasifika youth with education.

Pasifika Engagement Tool

The Pasifika Engagement Tool (PET) and fact sheets are intended to be used by police, schools and teachers, and youth officers who work with Pasifika youth and families. The research data collected in this project shows that a strength-based approach can generate culturally relevant support and understanding, provide opportunities for Pasifika students to develop a greater sense of belonging and connection, create an engagement within a cultural context, and offer support for Pasifika youth to manage conflicting expectations and priorities.
